Re: Back on the Road!

Years too late but yes thanks Hawaiis0, it got me to my friends place in Lincoln and back no problem. In fact it ran fine but what stopped me using it was the seized heater controls so as the weather got cold, it wasn't so much fun to use!

Re: Oldest Excel

My 1991 Hethel Celebration has "Eclat Excel" on the registration document - don't think they were ever registered as just "Excel".

Re: Back on the Road!

Well the best part of 1000 miles later, this time I think I've REALLY fixed it.... One Friday afternoon I gave it a try and it did the clattering relay thing on demand. This was the first time it did it when I had some time to sort it. First I identified which of the two main relays had a problem an...

Re: Clutch slave cylinder movement & M/cyl angle

It isn't unknown for the arm from the pedal to the master cylinder to bend - this would also reduce the amount the master cylinder push rod is moved and thus the slave. Worth a check.

Re: removing eclat door frame

Mat, Did this on my Elite years ago and found it so hard I eventually phoned Chris Foulds and said I was struggling with it. His reply is that's what you do, struggle..... As I remember (and it was a while ago) it was a case of dropping the front end down enough to be able to get the back out and th...

Re: Back on the Road!

They're actually green, but it's blacker than black if that makes sense, when I collected mine my brother had an actual black Excel, parked next to mine it looked grey! Anyway, the "running fine" bit didn't last, when I went to start it Friday morning, the relay clattering was back, took the Audi. W...

Re: Back on the Road!

Andy C, not sure, some sort of entrance, just off the A47 to the south on the B1108 Watton road.

Re: Back on the Road!

Hey Excel NT, that's cheating! :) The second pic is from the Performance Car road test of H27 when Lotus owned it - it's less than six months old there! (The first one is one of mine and is a bit deceptive, it's not much tidier than it is now, just photographs well. I'll give it a clean and take ano...

Re: Engine problems

The engineering answer is that the back pressure caused by having the thermostat fitted (even when it's open) stops local hotspots in the head causing small areas of vapour in the coolant, which stop the coolant getting to the metal and cooling it.

Re: Steering rack seal whilst fitted to car?

Sorry, but I've got the best part of a quarter million miles both behind and in front of 900-series Lotus engines and if you think it's "just waiting to break down" or "cranky" that's your problem, not the engine's.....

Alan, Bryan, many thanks.

Andy, are you really good at spotting where I took the pic or did you see me taking it?

Back on the Road!

Well after far too many years, looks like H27 is finally back on the road. MoT passed Friday with a couple of advisories (and after no more than checking all the lights worked), taxed, a tank of fuel and I've done about 100 miles since then. Main thing is there has been none of the main relay clatte...

Re: Headlining (again)

Quote: "Do any other plastic specialist vehicles suffer as badly from this, all things being equal (say Scimitars, Cerberas etc)? Or does the Elite/Eclat/Excel take the crown for leakiest hard-topped sportscar? Even Esprits seem to fare better." The problem with the Lotuses is that the headlining ma...

Re: Oil Pressure Problem.

Yroll, I did spot this thread had been resurrected! :)

The oil pressure comes up in a matter of seconds, no more than three at most.

Sadly the Excel is still off the road with a main power relay issue I am having real problems - plus a lack of motivation at times - to sort.....

The "Colin Chapman" and "Hethel 25th" scripts are aftermarket additions.....

The one needing resto in Norwich isn't mine is it? :)
