Re: Looking for a late SE

One thing I've learned that seems universal is that at 25-30 years old, all cars need a significant level of restoration regardless of mileage and climate because all of the "organic" components break down with time. Bushings begin to squeak. Seals, gaskets and weatherstrip begin to leak. Sure, thin...

Re: Polestar

With Jaguar going all-electric and up-market, plus 85% of their US dealerships bailing out on them, including my two closest, I'm thinking its time to get a new daily driver myself. Last year I had to stop for service at a Jaguar dealer 900 miles from home and that dealership is gone now too. I want...

Re: Seat base rubber diaphragm

Or has anyone fabricated a solution from a substitute. I'm thinking something like sinuous wire spring or Pirelli webbing? This has got to be one of my projects too. Indeed we fat Americans (guilty  ) need a bit of reinforcement.

Re: New member - Excel SA

There may be a market for those !! Bash Yes, the rubber mirrors on mine are the only things not cosmetically up to my standard. If anyone ever does come up with a marketable solution, I'll be a customer. I'd seen some NOS Rover mirrors on Ebay that looked like them in the photos, but said they were...

Re: Open boot lock failed

But isn't that supposed to be your "valet" key. On Toyota keys of the era, as I recall, there's one extra cut on the valet key that the ignition key doesn't have so that the valet parking your car can't access valuables left in the trunk or boot. Supra of course was a hatchback so it was just the gl...

Re: Another youtube project

Great to see an 'honest warts and all' video account of 'real life'! Andy I just felt somewhat vindicated to know that I'm not the only one who absent-mindedly misplaces tools and parts. Typical is I'll have a wrench (spanner) in my left hand while trying to thread on a nut with my right. I'll real...

Re: I have bought an 89 Excel SA site unseen

Here in the states, considering the lack of replacement parts and being uncommon, I'd definitely have it shipped. It'd be one thing for me to drive a newly purchased Corvette long distance (BTDT) because almost all of the parts that make it go and stop would be readily available from any auto parts ...

We have a little shop here that sells uniquely British goods imported from the UK. They hold a British car show every Fall and I took the Lotus. https://i.imgur.com/D8H8Njn.jpg A man came up to me very excited to see the Lotus. He said that he didn't know anything about the car show, that he'd just ...

That's the same one I've got that doesn't include the HA Steering section. Not like somebody took it out and its missing, but actually not even in the table of contents. Might be worth asking the seller to confirm. I wouldn't let it stop you from buying it, but probably worth a little more if its co...

I've enjoyed watching several British automotive television shows including Wheeler Dealers, Car SOS and Salvage Hunters. Being here in Texas where it rarely ever rains and "snow" is just a word in the dictionary, I am always shocked at the amount of rust on the subject cars in Britain. A car can lo...

Re: Old Paint Problems

Hard to tell from the pictures, but it kinda looks like it might have been repainted once before. Looks like white paint is flaking off and there's another layer of white underneath. I'm still a newby to the Lotus, but on Corvettes, I do know that the back side of the fiberglass panels were not gelc...

Re: Speedometer Needle Bouncing

At least for the Toyota Supras, the common culprit is an elbow off the transmission speedo gear drive. Haven't looked yet to see how the Excel's speedo cable is connected and routed. The Supra w58's got a sharp, almost 90 degree elbow while the a43d's got a less problematic smooth arc elbow. Both wo...

Re: Fort Worth, Texas - Wheels for Wellness

I got a lot of questions about the Excel and it seemed that nobody knew what it was. But that's what was so fun about it. I've been entering car shows for 36 years with mostly Mustangs and Corvettes but its always the same old domestic muscle cars and hot rods. Nobody ever stops to ask me about my C...

Fort Worth, Texas - Wheels for Wellness

I participated in a charity car show this weekend in downtown Fort Worth, Texas along with a couple of our local Celica Supra owners. My friend took a few photos if anyone is curious. Wheels for Wellness - September 16, 2023 My buddy Nick has a blue 83 Supra (which has the same exterior door handles...

Im 66 years old and Ive never owned a 4 door car, I might grow up one day. Bash I "grew up" when I had back surgery in 2011. I can't tolerate going very far in an SUV because of the distance between the driver seat bottom and the roll center of the vehicle combined with the unevenness of the asphal...
