Re: Purge Pump.. alternatives?

They do make a noticeable difference in one situation. Warm engine left for the right/wrong (PoV thing) time. If the engine is cold, then no need. If the engine is warm and left a long time, no need. If the engine is warm and only left a few mins, no need. it's that period of time where a lot of the...

Re: Purge Pump.. alternatives?

If you were to replace the whole pump then it would need to be something that is pretty much sealed from the electrical part to the part holding air/fuel mix. Perhaps not a perfect hermetically sealed arrangement but at least one that reduces the potential for an explosive mix where the motor may sp...

Re: Rear cross member corrosion - Advice needed!

"Near the front of the back wheel" does hint at seatbelt mounts, the subframe at that point is really just the centre backbone. Just before halfway of the wheels it then forms the cross of the T that is used to attach the suspension uppers etc. https://www.diyelectriccar.com/cdn-cgi/image/format=aut...

This car for sale has a pic showing rear seatbelt anchors. https://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=19350 https://car-from-uk.com/ebay/carphotos/full/ebay179745.jpg In that image, which is taken from the rear of the car looking forwards, you can clearly see the joints in the exhaust just after it splits ...

Re: Passenger side front indication and sidelight..

The earth goes as a wire to the bolt that secures the plastic holder, then it's all by that bolt, so most likely rust. As for 12v, there are short wires that go to just inside the body (headlight void) and connect using those old rubber-coated bent metal connectors, again susceptible to corrosion.

Re: water pump repair kit

I'd say if there are no signs of leak then leave it, and wait for it to leak. They can be damaged by errors during refurb. I've purchased one that somebody had refurbished, and it leaked when it arrived (not a problem as I purchased it for its casting thinking I may need to re-do). That said, if you...

Re: Passenger Window, Front Caliper

It's worth pulling both callipers and freeing them off. If one has got so bad it's sticking then chances are the other will not be great so you'll end up with the "good one" just being the new "bad one" if you don't do them both. I'm not talking of spending £hundreds and having full refurb, just cle...

Probably better to convert to standard headlights like a Mini / Landy, the originals have been unavailable for a long time.

That's the later mount, I seem to recall them being better at damping but no good for racing.

Re: manifold to down pipe nuts

I've always used Aerotight nuts on there, and yes they can be a right PITA to undo. You're not too far from both the body (fire damage) and the engine (damage to ali casting) so be careful with the gas. I have an electric induction heater kit that's good for such jobs but that might struggle given t...

Re: which brake fluid

The main point is DO NOT USE DOT 5.0. The cars were designed at a time which I think was before DOT 5.1, but that (5.1) would be my choice of fluid, you can mix it with 4.0 (so can use 5.1 without having to completely eliminate all 4.0). Edit: I should say, that means changing it more frequently but...

Re: Excel wanted - newbie questions

Hi Nigel, and welcome. Door window frames. They are now available, made by the original supplier. You can probably find them advertised on eBay. Door beams, there are a mix of problems, so it can be difficult to initially spot which it is. Hinges wear so that the circular hole become ovalised, this ...
