Re: Lotus Excel leaking sunroof
Hi. If you do want to go back to original then I'd suggest contacting Lotusbits and purchasing a section of roof. They break lots of cars and I suspect sell less bodyshell parts than they do mechanical sections, so guess a roof will be relatively cheap. Then a bodywork firm can wafer down the edges ...

Re: Oil Change Advice
Considering there's quite a bit of oil left in each change (cooler, pipes, cam towers plus what hangs) I'd not want poor (cheap) oil in my engine. If you are doing 500/year and you still need to change it every two years it is 1000 miles, so why not just put a decent oil (something like Valvoline) i...

Re: ExteriorDoor lock has fallen out
The plastic handle has a few metal threaded inserts molded into the plastic, the plastic cracks and the insert ceases to be held in place. This either results in the plastic handle coming away from the door, or the barrel falling away from the handle (this case). These can be fixed, ideally cut away...

Re: loss of spark ignition
SO the symptoms you have described the stopping , starting a bit and then stopping again. leave it for 30 minutes it starts and goes for 20 minutes. I tried a load of stuff. But it was the rota arm. you just need to buy a quality one not made in China for £2.50. Its the rivet that makes them crack ...

Unless of course the flexi is a stainless braided one or something similar, then there is a problem clamping it.

Re: Paint Job Cost
Perhaps they've allowed time for:
Drill, grind and then epoxy the captive nuts of the handles.
cut off, then set new bolts in the bumper black pads.
And so forth.

Re: Turbo 2.2lt excel
Rather than Turbo on a 2.2l, I'd suggest a few other options. A belt-driver supercharger, situated near where the air-con would be. My project car had this done but had a fundamental flaw of doing it to a HC NA engine rather than a HC Turbo engine, so couldn't give much boost. It got c210-220 BHP bu...

Re: Turbo 2.2lt excel
The problem of Dellorts dripping fuel onto the dissy and so forth, are effectively solved by the turbo. There are situations where the dellorts can get too much fuel and it runs through to the airbox and as that's not as precisely sealed as necessary to hold fuel, the fuel then drips, but with a tur...

Re: Ignition barrel removal
Correct, our locks are swapped but, don't forget so are the driver's position, so whilst their Left Hand door lock is our RH door lock, their driver's door is our passenger door.

Or put it in gear and bump the car, having locked a bar as you suggest.

Re: Headlight down, light on, ignition off
I'd start with checking the relay, it may have stuck. If it's not not, then check that the relay coil isn't still being powered.

The semi-auto adjusters are known for the piston sticking, so they're not great.

Re: Another timing belt question
In people's experience, once the timing belt tension is set how many miles does it stay within spec? Thanks Pete The belt will loose tension after only a little use, but that's still within spec, as the original figures (90-95 etc) are for a new belt, and shouldn't be applied to a belt that's been ...

Re: Borroughs gauge for sale.
What are these like with the later HTD (round tooth profile) belts? Can they still be used with accuracy? No good for the blue ones I assume. Pete Yes, these do the Excel (and other front-engined 9xx), the only real difference is a slightly different setting, so would definitely give a consistent r...
