Re: Steering Rack removal

I recall doing that job, and yes it is a PITA, but don't worry, there are worse jobs on these cars. :D

Previously we old timers would always make our own gaskets by hammering around the edge of the part to be sealed, before we had our own printers.

Makes me feel ancient then, as the tap hammer was where my mind went when this thread come up.

Re: New Excel model coming soon

And the cheaper options that appeared on eBay as pre-orders etc all seem to have dried up now, with some being £200- £300.

Re: New Excel model coming soon

I faced the dilemma. I really wanted one to reflect the Celebration model, so green seemed the obvious choice, but so much of the detail is incorrect for the Celebration (incl colour), so the other choice was red which if I'm honest is my preferred colour for the Excel. the idea of modifying one to ...

The retailer didn't respond to my message about the badges being upside-down, nor to the chaser but I mailed the distributor who are sending the re-printed badges.

Re: 215 Tyres

Hi Will, I'd suggest using a site the below to compare the tyres. I'd suggest going 215/45 is a bad idea as it will be significantly smaller, if you use the comparison function of this sit it warns to not go a factor of more than 3% based on a certain calculation, and the 45s come out as 9.7%, 205/5...

Re: Mileage Issue

Tyres, the 215s were unavailable for a long time so best practice was 205s )as 225s were too wide and rubbed)

Re: Open boot lock failed

I've just checked a handbook (not the same year but close) and it was Service key 1 = Ignition/steering l, boot, doors. Master key 2 = the same plus glovebox, so the valet key is the service key and allows access to all save for the glovebox. Then there's the fuel filler cap key. One train of though...

Re: Open boot lock failed

Hi Bash, yes I had tried that, but a good call out as I'd not said that I'd tried. Anyway, problem solved, ish.... This is my project Excel Celebration (Google search will show the exact car is search supercharged Excel), but I just tried what should be a non-option. I have lots of Excels (4 current...

Open boot lock failed

So, one of my Excels has the boot seemingly locked but refusing to unlock with the key, so I was wondering if anybody has any success in a way to open it that is non-destructive other than a locksmith option (it's not roadworthy, so means mobile locksmith).

Re: Excel Workshop Manual

@Mac I'll need to have a look around the workshop, I probably have a spare original and for a reasonable price. It going to be a little while though as my back is struggling so workshop out of bounds.

I'm, a suspicious person by nature, this item in Amazon at c£15 delivered looks surprisingly similar even down to the stitching and how the top but one stitch pulls the "leather"

Re: Excel Model

Just noticed it's resin (which it seems is what Cult use) rather than diecast. I suspect that's reflective of a lower volume production run than a lot of metal cast ones and would make it viable for Cult but not for other model manufacturers.

They look aftermarket to me, so alarm system seems logical.
