Re: How do you check Castor Angle?

Definitely needs to be level, if wheels are high at front then the reading would be artificially high because it would indicate a lot of lean when doing the reading at the front of the wheel turn but then read low when doing the reading at the back of the wheel (by front I mean the RH wheel when on ...

Re: How do you check Castor Angle?

To check it you really need a dedicated gauge. The principal is that it's measured the same way as camber, but for castor you turn the wheels one way by a defined amount (the actual angle of turn can vary but the point is for it to be a known angle and be the same when you come to a later stage), yo...

Re: Windscreen replacement

As long as they are glued to the body then that's fine, Remove screws and door seal then use a knife (the retracting snap-off blade type are good, as a Stanley type will be too short) to go between the body and the trims, it needs to be done a little at a time to start with as you really want to get...

Re: Windscreen replacement

On an Excel? (asking in case it's another model). All Excels had windscreens bonded in place. Do you mean the trims have been bonded in place (that's not how I read the post)? The side trims are generally located by screws into the body work and by silicone or similar to hold it to the body, but not...

Re: Intermittent wiper problem

If the wiper starts up (without being switched on) straight after engine starting, then look to the engine earth strap, as the high current can cause a back-feed enough to move the wiper from park.

Re: Front Crank Oil Seal

I've not done one in place but can't think there's any reason why not. You would need to remove timing belt and pulley etc but those are generally OK in situ (but the crank sprocket can be a PITA in some cases.

Re: Cam belt tension/timing

It doesn't really matter, as long as it's up to hajf a tooth out. If it's more , then adjust it to the next tooth. There's no adjustment to this , unless you have adjustable cam sprockets. It can be made worse if a head is skimmed as it shortens the distance between the crank sprocket and head sproc...

Yes, pulley is the same, doesn't matter what angle one it is (104, 107 etc).

Re: Celebration for sale

If it was to reach the upper end of that guide price, it would end up costing the buyer more than the £17k of a previous auction elsewhere, (£14,782 + 12.5 + 2.5% (VAT on the 12.5%).

Re: Celebration

Doesn't look like it's a big thing to fix, and with the lacquer peel elsewhere it's ripe for a respray that keeps it all one colour.

Re: Carpets, reliable supplier needed!

I have a set that came with a car and believe they are Coverdale, they match the shapes I've come to expect, and for the treasons that Alan has shown, I plan to get a set from a person who makes carpets for Esprits but as yet doesn't have a set of Excel to make the patterns from (I will have to remo...

Re: Excel Windscreen wiper arm spindle nut

I would have thought they're technically an imperial 5/16 but with an M8 fitting as it's slightly bigger hole but only by a fraction of a mm. Reason for thinking that is that those wiper wheel boxes are ancient design and used on BL cars of the 70s when everything was imperial.

Gutted I couldn't make it at all in the end. I was still logged on and working past 6pm on Friday, that nice early finish didn't happen.

I thought you'd done something like the 1970s vinyl roof but with brushed nylon.

Re: Headlining material

In the Excel, the headlining is a brushed-nylon backed with foam and originally a thin scrim but now it seems we just don't get the scrim back.
