Re: Cooling Fan

And the above in a nutshell is why I still follow this forum, even after selling my Excel.

Re: 2nd Drain / breather hose in rear bumper

Hi Tony, Red 87 SE, belongs to Dave from Wymondham now. I can see it in a number of the photos. He's a lucky chap - I wish I had never sold it :( No grommets in either hole and they weren't in line either. Perhaps it was a simple as Lotus adding the second hole for hanging up to paint? Like the 'add...

Re: 2nd Drain / breather hose in rear bumper

Afternoon Gents,

Suspect that may have been my old car - likewise I had 2 holes and when I replaced the tank breather hose and fitted a solid state SU pump, the pump also had a breather.

So I ran a second pipe from that.

Cheers,

Re: Headlamp overhaul and fog light alignment

Hello Bryan, If original they actually have a ball and cup arrangement so just loosen the nut slightly and they can be adjusted as you wish. I found this was how they work when I removed my bumper for painting. Corrosion may mean you need to remove them initially to lubricate but once moving they ca...

Re: Happy new year

Happy New Year to you all. I'd like to thank you all on this friendly forum for all the help and advice provided over the last year or so. It's great to engage in some of the banter too! I'm still hoping the right SA will turn up one day but have bought a TVR to fiddle with in the meantime... Stay s...

Re: Newbie

Welcome Chris.

Saw your car on eBay and thought it looked really special with the Supra wheels and that interior looks amazing 👍

I'm sure you'll love it and it will certainly keep you busy. The guys on here are really helpful too which is a big part of the ownership experience.

Enjoy!

You all did him proud - some great photos on the various other sites.

Nice to see my old car in the lineup.

Re: Oliver Winterbottom Interview

I'm with you on that Tony. I learned my trade on the board, then AutoCAD and latterly SOLIDWORKS. Whilst the capability of the software is amazing, a lot of today's designers are software drivers, not Engineers in the true sense. Unlike Mr Winterbottom who did indeed possess a true design engineer's...

Wanted - Excel SA

Hello All Having sold my SE in September I find myself missing it too much so I'm afraid I am a returning addict... I'm looking for an Excel SA, pretty flexible on requirements but key points are:- - Must be an SA, I don't want another manual - Not fussed on colour as long as it's the colour it was ...

Re: Front bumper and spoiler

My '86 SE had Rubber, presumably RRIM.

If you use a heat gun to get the old paint off it goes rather flexible. Don't ask me how I know that...

Re: Drive shaft removal - Easy as it looks?

Yes they're in place, otherwise they would slide out a lot more - there is a a fair bit of engagement. I think the C Clip just stops it sliding out of the bearing - i.e. it sits behind the race not in a machined groove. I had the same concern with mine as there was as least 1mm of play if not more b...

Re: Drive shaft removal - Easy as it looks?

Mine popped out very easily (steady...)

Spring clip on output shaft small diameter so doesn't require a lot of force.

A tip is when reassembling just crimp the dust protector ring against the shaft gently with a screwdriver and hammer as they commonly come loose leading to scraping sounds.
