Thanks Tim.
Managed to take photo of engine no. this morning and have sent to Lotus. Was a bit of a stretch for a little bloke and awkward taking photo with pipes in the way. Now awaiting the verdict.
I will keep this thread posted with any updates

Re: Where Can I find the Engine Number???
Hi Tim Thanks for your help and photos. Found the engine number twice, each side of the engine on flat. The one appears to be incomplete above the starter motor. I have been a Lotus fan most of my life and bought my +2 when I was 23 but kids came along, crack in the chassis which I couldn't afford t...

Re: Where Can I find the Engine Number???
Hi Tim
Wow I didn't expect a worldwide response. How is Minneapolis this morning. I see that it is pretty cold at -1 with snow showers. Not ideal for us Lotus lovers.
Thanks for sending photos. That makes it a lot clearer where to look. Will get car out of garage this morning and peer in.

Where Can I find the Engine Number???
Hi Guys Just had an interesting letter from Lotus Archives. I asked them to check the original sale of the car and the link to The Norfolk Motor Co who sold it to the original owner. The reply came back, but they wanted me to check the VIN plate and the number on the engine because it is ( should be...

Re: Brake Pad - Is there a good Upgraded Pad to use
Hi Guys Thanks for all of your replies and input. My thought pattern started after reading that ChrisYD has crashed his Excel and was having it rebuilt and thought that it was because his brakes were not as good as the modern car in front which pulled up quicker. My original thoughts were that brake...

Brake Pad - Is there a good Upgraded Pad to use
Now I have put the Excel back on the road after 10 years of her being ''cosied up'' in the nice warm garage the only thing that I am disappointed on is the braking. Its OK if you squeeze your buttocks and press real hard!!!
Has anyone fitted uprated pads??? and does it improve the braking???

Hi Mauro Being an old fashioned engineering draughtsman (16-65) I am well impressed with your skills. Only wish that I had got involved in CAD drawing during my working life but didn't have the time to learn new skills, besides I always thought I could draw better myself with my ink Rotering Pens!!!...

Can I also add my voice to the 3 options that have been thrown into the ring. I have no objection to any of them. Having only just recently joined I have appreciated the many comments and advice on the matters I have posted on a couple of matters regarding my Excel. Where would I turn to or who else...

Re: Water Pump Removal and Replacement
Thanks Andy that's good information. Didn't know there was holes in the Aux pulley for the bolt head to come through. The pump was removed, cleaned and inspected during the service so hopefully he would have refitted it with a cap head bolt. Grant, thanks for your reply, I don't know whether it is t...

I am a new member and as yet do not know who's who but I have recognised that Angus features massively in all sorts of posts that I have seen on the forum. Every forum needs a character who is a leader, a decision maker and a General - organising the troops. From what I read Angus has been that guy....

Water Pump Removal and Replacement
Have just had my '85 Excel serviced with new belts etc. Only done 300 miles and just spotted a pool of water under car and the dreaded water pump is leaking. I am thinking of tackling the job myself with the help of a mechanic who has never seen a Lotus engine, but reading all I can on the subject i...
