thanks for a very good and detailed work-description. Will give it a go at the weekend. Meanwhile the pods will stay open permanantely now - as i have wound them up . Better that than no lights at all

are the headlight motors/relays protected by a fuse - as both mine stopped working at the same time ---- mind you have been a bit doubious lately as i had to use the flasher & then turn on the headlights to have them stay up -- so i will also check for bad earth

alternator- belt to thin ?? - se if its freyed at the edges,
belt not tightened enough ?
guessing you have checked batteru connections
or it might just be the alternator thats starting to give up....

i found two different ones . one for a high compression engine and one for a normal engine.

i use a mix of 50/50 water and antifreeze - glycolbased (2year) . That keeps the freezing point down to -50 C :o which is ok as it DO get cold up here, and my "summer-cars" are not used during the winter. I prefer the 2 year-type as i do run some older vehicles as well and the new Long-life antifree...
