Re: Hello From Malvern

Hi there, There are 3 models of excel (manual) in essence. the 'Excel' or LC Excel, is the base model, it has a low compression version of the 2.2 and develops 160bhp rather than 180. In theory can be told by black cam covers but these can easily be changed deliberately or otherwise. It had 14" allo...

Re: Excel values!

I think the difference with the fords are that whether true of not, the perception is that they are simpler to work on, parts are cheaper and much more available, and also the perception that they are more reliable (simpler). Re: Celebration On Pistonheads

the car was designed to have the same wheel and tyre fitment on all four wheels. From factory it should be the 215's but as stated 205/50 are more common now and i didn't have any issue with mine. I'd get them changed to the same all round when its possible. RE your speedo being out, if you are doin...

Radar, The car is now with East Anglian Motor Auctions and will be up for sale on the 5th May Classic Auction.

Don - Its a shame in some ways, but i've had two years of enjoyment out of the car it has not cost me much money to keep going. Time has come for someone else to enjoy her!

Re: Flow Lock valve connectors

The gauge is designed for the vdo gauges, if you have the smiths ones it won't be configured correctly. The chap could make one up for you / ammend yours with the settings for your fuel sender if it is not working for you, if you are able to read the resistance at full and empty. Yes - There is an o...

Re: Previous thread about front suspension recall

There was a recall on the front anti-roll bar mounts, where a more substantial fitting to the front crossmember was used. IIRC you have the upgrade if you have a u shaped support with two bolts on either side of the ARB. If you have one which only 'hooks' round the ARB and is attached at one side it...

Re: On the Prowl for a Late Calypso Red Excel!

Welcome Jim! I hope we're all very friendly! please ask away any questions. I seem to remember being equally as specific, I actually had two colour choices. I was lucky enough to find one of the options I was after. I would point out a couple of things, i don't want to sound slightly negative, i'm n...

Re: MSD Ignition Again Who Has Tried It

hmm I think megajolt might be a good spring project for me :). Anyone know if you can run the megasquirt in an ignition only mode so that i'd have the option to go fuel injected later on if i wish? I know I can with a canems ecu. Also the megajolt info for the v4 edition has an analogue input that c...

Re: Summary of tyre/wheel options

its a couple of years back now but i had p-zero nero's on my old 1.6 mk1 focus. I didn't rate them really, they were good in the dry, but average in the wet. However they may have changed compound etc since then I've got the Toyo's Jerry mentions on my excel, and i've found them very good, especiall...
