I would check sparkplug colour, carb Balance and float height for starters.
If you change float needle valve or have in the past, make sure you have the original viton tipped ones.
Generic ones seem to have the habit of desintegrating.

Re: Run to France
In my Lotus & Triumph, I always pack a basic toolkit, sparkplugs, dissy cap & rotor, coil, fuses and a multimeter. If you run into a problem its mostly electrical. Also check if spare is holding some air! With my Ferrari I am a little more paranoia. I am taking a spare fuel pump since it is still ru...

Re: Sit down before reading.
Are you sure that you will be able to resist the temptation?
I have 3 sensible cars and 3 toys….
I have racked up 2600 km in the Excel SE in the last 2 months AND ITS WINTER!!, just can not resist.

Re: The true power of our cars
Thank you for your map.
It does not seem to work for my engine, its way to much advance.
No pinging but bad torque and top end power.
I had set 32* as max advance but it was to much, now its 28* max.

Re: The true power of our cars
Is it worth while playing with ignition advance or is the standard curve of 10* @1000 rpm, 18* @2000 rpm and 26* @ 3000 rpm the optimal advance curve? I have a standard HC engine with twin 104 cam's. I have an Accuspark programmable blackbox so i can program any curve. 26* @3000 rpm seems a little c...

Re: Blown head gasket?
First test results in the "boiler room". Pulled the plugs, all looked afternoon tea (with milk). Flashlight test. All piston tops looked sooty except for number 2 which looked fresh aluminium. So number 2 definitely steam cleaned. Coolant on block cavities under dissy corresponds with number 2...

Paint finishing looks top an matches the OEM matte black. In short A MASTERPIECE. I do not know how you arranged it all Agnus. Your a genius!!! Will fit ...

Re: Blown head gasket?
Great idea's
Will pull the plugs this evening, check colour of plugs and piston heads for "steam cleaning".
Next compression test.
Is there a easy way to connect compressed air to plughole?

Re: Blown head gasket?
There is no oil in the coolant tank. Started her up this morning to investigate. Started immediately without any hick-ups, replaced coolant tank cap with the one of my TR6 (same size). I found some coolant in the cavities under the distributor but did not see any dripping during warm-up. System stil...

Blown head gasket?
This morning temp shot up. Checked coolant and it was dramatically low. filled her up and 50km on, temp went up again, coolant gone again. I let her cool down completely and filled her up again and let her idle to operating temp. There was no pressure build up in the cooling system during warmup and...
